It’s full steam ahead at Devon County Council’s Passmore Edwards Centre in Newton Abbot, with free fun workshops for children and young people.

The events will take place throughout the summer and into the autumn term, and are part of a project to improve access to the Railway Studies Collection.

The project is being funded by a grant of £49,600 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Free creative workshops for 7-11 year olds, exploring the theme of railways and trains are being run by artist and illustrator Cara Roxanne. The next session is on Monday 9 September from 3.45 – 5.45 pm when we will be looking at who’s on the train. Do you ever imagine what other passengers do? Create some fun and comic characters to share your journey. Will it be super hero gran, a child spy or just a man with very big feet?

Free Media Sessions for those aged 11 years and older are on offer for anyone interested in using digital cameras, video and sound recorders and making animation. Media artist Kate Green will help create mini films that will mix photos, video, animation, sound, stories and words all about railways and trains. No experience is needed in using any of the equipment as Kate will show how easy it is. The next Media Session is on Monday 2 September from 3.45 – 5.45pm.

Through these workshops learning materials will be produced such as ‘discovery boxes’ for people of all ages to handle, explore and learn about the collection.

Spaces for these sessions are limited, so please contact the Passmore Edwards Centre on 01392 384012 to book, or email passmore.edwards@devon.gov.uk
