Silverton family bid to be crowned UK’s savviest
The finance conscious Humphrey family from Silverton are in the running to be crowned Britain’s savviest, having been shortlisted in the annual money-saving advice competition, Nectar Savvy Family.
The family were selected, along with seven other finalists, from thousands of entrants, to keep a savvy blog for five weeks. In return for sharing their best money-saving tips and advice, they are in with the chance of winning a bumper prize package worth £5,000 and being crowned Nectar Savvy Family 2013.
This year’s finalists are being judged by a panel of experts which is led by savvy property developer and TV personality, Sarah Beeny.
Mum, Melinda, entered the family, dad, Phillip and their two children into the competition as she felt their frugal, yet fun habits would make them worthy of the title.
From using coupons and vouchers and cutting the children’s hair to following a strict spreadsheet, the Humphreys are always on the lookout for a bargain and will be sharing their advice regularly at www.nectar.com/savvy
Sarah Beeny is blogging on the site each week alongside the Humphreys, showing how her own family make their money stretch further.
At the end of the blogging period, Sarah and the panel of judges will face the tough task of crowning the Nectar Savvy Family 2013. The family deemed the most creative and ‘savvy’ when it comes to saving will win a fantastic haul of goodies from Nectar and its partners.
Already the Humphrey family have raised the ante this year in the bid to win, with tips that include checking out local amateur dramatics or musical societies as a cheaper alternative to more expensive shows and swapping expensive afternoon tea in a café for a friend’s kitchen with homemade scones.
Mum, Melinda, comments: “We’re so proud to be sharing our tips with the nation. We work together to come up with ways to trim the budget, and we have a lot of fun doing it. We hope other families around the country who might be reading our blog can see that being frugal with your money is about being smart with what you’ve got.”
Sarah Beeny, said: “With families across the country looking for ways to make their money go further, the Nectar Savvy Family blogs are a great example of how you can make the most of your budget without sacrificing on quality time together. I’ve been very impressed by the amazing variety of savvy tips from the Humphrey family so far and will certainly be trying a few of them myself.”
Sarah Beeny is joined on the judging panel by personal finance expert, Annie Shaw and Nectar Marketing Director, James Frost, who said: “We’ve championed savvy spending and shopping since our launch in 2002, and we’re always keen to unearth new hints and tips from our Nectar Savvy Families. I’m looking forward to reading more of what the Humphreys have in store for us this year.”
