Brazil Burger Launched in Exeter
Exeter’s original gourmet burger restaurant has created a special Brazil feast to celebrate the football World Cup.
Only available during the World Cup at Urban Burger on Queen Street, each gourmet Brazil burger, priced at £7.95, comes with fries and a free soft drink.
And every time Brazil are playing in the tournament, the price drops £2 to just £5.95 - or stick to £7.95 with £2 donated to the Exeter Foundation, supporting a range of local charities including Hospice Care, Headway Devon and Exeter Samaritans.
Brazil kicked off the 2014 tournament in Sao Paulo with a 3-1 win over Croatia on Thursday evening. Tonight they take on Mexico, kick off 8pm.
Owner and chef Garth Pearse says the Brazil burger’s spicy kick will offer something new to local foodies and is already proving popular.
He said: “It is beautiful Devon beef combined with a new sauce that we’ve spent hours perfecting in the kitchen. It’s a great combination. The very best Devon beef but with a bit of a Latino kick to it. People are really getting into it.”
Using 100 per cent prime Charolaise beef from Greendale Farm in Devon, the Brazil Burger is topped with chilli com queijo and chourico, then covered in a special spicy Malagueta Brazil-inspired sauce, packed with lime juice, red chillies, tomatoes, oregano, garlic and sweet paprika.
The £2 money off deal is only available whenever Brazil are playing live in the month-long tournament.
Malagueta pepper is used extensively in Brazil, particularly in the Bahia state, on the east coast.
Getting its name from the melegueta pepper from West Africa, smaller ones are called malaguetinha and the larger ones malagueta, different maturities from the same plant rather than different varieties. It is used to season many regional dishes and sauces in Brazil, and is also used in Portugal and Mozambique.
Garth added: “The waiting is finally over. We’re ready to dish up Brazil Burgers in the restaurant and downstairs in the bar, which is showing the football. We’re supporting England and Brazil in what is already turning out to be a fantastic World Cup.”
