Mussel in on the Exe Festival this weekend
A festival celebrating the Exe Estuary and its cuisine takes place on Exmouth Seafront this Saturday, 24th September.
This year the Exe Estuary Partnership’s Spirit of the Exe Festival joins forces with the second Exmouth Mussel Festival.
The Exe Estuary Management Partnership is a group of the eight councils and a number of other organisations responsible for managing the Estuary including Devon County Council, Natural England and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
The festival takes place on Exmouth Beach/Esplanade from noon till dusk. On offer will be live music, walk-about acts, cookery demonstrations, seashore foraging, willowcraft activities and a super sand sculpture competition.
Entertainment on the music stage will come from AJ’s Caravan Band, Dumbo’s Feather, Proper Gander, and the Exmouth Shanty Men.
Local chefs on the chef’s stage include Daryl Price, from the Point Restaurant, Kathy Evans, of Chronicle Restaurant and Sue Stoneman, South West chef of the year finalist.
To accompany the delicious choice of locally sourced seafood local wines and ales will be on offer.
There is an opportunity to forage the shoreline for goodies, Bear Grylls style and see the fruits of your labour transformed into delicious food under the expert tutelage of Chris Holland.

Visitors can even make their own lobster pot with David French, whose family have made chris-holland-tinderbundletraditional Willow Crab/Lobster pots for over five generations.
Stephanie Clark, the Exe Estuary Officer, said: “Come along and browse a mix of stalls and learn more about the range of exciting watersports that are on offer along our estuary.
“Discover the range of delectable seafood that our local fishermen bring to our shores. And don’t be afraid to try something new!”
