3 Things to Consider About Dentures
Whether you already have dentures or you are considering getting dentures there are a few things that you should keep in mind.
Dentures are simply false teeth that can be made of a few different kinds of materials, they are usually made from plastic, nylon, or metal.
They also go over the gums in place of missing teeth. There are two kinds of false teeth, there are partial dentures that are designed just to replace some missing teeth or even just one, and there are full set dentures that either replace all teeth or just the upper or lower set of teeth.
They are typically used for two reasons. The first is practical, they can help with both eating and speech. The other reason they are used is aesthetic, as they can be a real confidence booster for people that do suffer from missing teeth.
When thinking about getting dentures there are 3 main factors to consider as it is very possible that dentures aren’t right for you so it is best to go into the idea of getting them fully understanding what is involved.
1: Cost
In the UK not all dental care is free on the NHS but it is usually cheaper than going private. Some people in the UK are able to get them free if they fall into an exemption from cost status.
There are too many specific variables to be able to cover here as to who would be able to get them free in the UK and who wouldn’t, this is something that a dentist would cover with you if dentures are something that you might need.
A big factor of cost is the quality of the dentures as well. If you are getting dentures free on the NHS they are typically (but not always) of a lower quality than if you pay for them privately.
Of course, not everyone is able to afford top of the line dentures and dental care but this is absolutely something that you are going to need to take into consideration before deciding to get dentures.
2: Alternatives
There are other possible options that you can choose instead of getting dentures such as implants.
Again, this is something that you will absolutely need to cover with a dentist as to what the best option for you might be.
Implants usually provide a greater look and feel if having fake teeth be as authentic as possible is what you are looking for, however, they might also not be viable for you and they are typically more expensive.
Not only are there alternatives to dentures but there are also alternatives to what kind of dentures you can get so you will need to speak to your dentist about that too; you will need to consider things like metal dentures vs plastic dentures and what is right for you.
When deciding what to do just make sure that you consider all of your options.
3: Maintenance
When you have false teeth, you will need to follow the best practices to make sure that you are taking the best proper care of them.
Your dentists will obviously instruct you on what you will need to be doing to make sure that they are adequately taken care of.
You need to consider if you want to take on the responsibility of taking care of the dentures, as it can be a lot of money to spend on something that you don’t really want to have to manage.
Can be Great
Dentures can be great and are great for thousands if not millions of people around the world, you just need to take the time to consider if they are the best option for you.
