Popular bus service extended to operate seven days a week
Devon County Council is funding improved services for a cross-city bus route which links Exminster to Exeter.
Bus Service B, operated under contract to the County Council by Stagecoach, was extended earlier this year to provide a six days a week, all day connection between Exminster, Matford Business Park, Marsh Barton, the city centre, Pinhoe and Exeter Business Park.
In response to public demand, the service now runs seven days a week as the County Council has introduced Sunday and Bank Holiday services on the B route between Exminster, Exeter City Centre and the Met Office. The service is hourly during the day.
Devon County Council has funded the additional services using financial contributions from two separate Section 106 planning agreements at Exminster (Milbury Farm) and Pinhoe (Pinn Lane).
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “The County Council has added this Sunday and bank holiday service following requests from local residents. It highlights that we are making good use of financial contributions from planning agreements to ensure that areas which have undergone development are being connected to our transport network. This route is particularly valuable for providing a sustainable transport option to Matford Business Park, Marsh Barton and Exeter Business Park.”
Councillor Alan Connett, Devon County Councillor for Exminster and Kenton, said: “The new service is a great boost to residents as it helps them get to and from work more easily on that side of Exeter and also for people who want to get to Marsh Barton. Working with Exminster Parish Council, we have been able to improve on what would otherwise have been a more limited service and we very much hope the B route proves successful.”
Robert Williams, Commercial Director of Stagecoach South West, said: “I'm very pleased that our B service has now moved to seven day operation within Exeter and I hope it will prove popular with residents on both sides of the City.”
Initially, the Sunday and bank holiday service will be funded for two years. Its longer-term continuation will depend on passenger numbers.
The Sunday and bank holiday timetable can be found on the Stagecoach website
