Roadworks planned for North Devon Link Road
Essential roadworks are planned for the North Devon Link Road from Monday 2 June.
It follows patching work which has been carried out during night time closures earlier this week in preparation for new surfacing. The majority of the work from 2 June will be surface dressing.
However, the opportunity will also be taken to carry out drainage work, sign maintenance, grass cutting, roadmarking and gully cleaning in order to minimise disruption and ensure the safety of the workforce.
The A361 will be closed to all east bound traffic from Newtown Cross to Bolham Roundabout, between .330am and 3.30pm, from Monday 2 to Friday 6 June. The same section of road will be closed to all traffic in both directions overnight from 7pm to 6am from Monday 2 to Monday 9 June.
A diversion route will be signed eastwards from Newtown Cross to Bolham Roundabout via B3227 (former A361) A396 to A361 Bolham Roundabout. The westerly diversion will be via Tiverton, Heathcoat Way, Kennedy Way, Rackenford Road and South Molton Road.
The road from Aller Cross to Bish Mill will be closed for all eastbound traffic from 9:30am to 3:30pm from Wednesday 4 to Friday 6 June. It will be closed to all traffic in both directions from 7pm to 6am from Wednesday 4 to Tuesday 10 June.
Traffic will be diverted from Aller Cross via the B3226, left at Pathfields Roundabout into the Industrial Estate, right into Station Road to East Street and left to Bish Mill Roundabout. Access across the A361 Pathfields junction will be maintained during these works for access to South Molton and North Molton.
Road closures will be lifted over the weekend although traffic management arrangements will remain in place, which could cause some disruption.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “Drivers should observe the speed restrictions to avoid damage to other vehicles from chippings and to give the surface the best chance of bedding in. Every effort will be made to maintain access to properties at all times but unfortunately some interruption may be unavoidable.”
Surface dressing is weather dependent and may be delayed as a consequence of poor weather conditions.
South West Highways Ltd will carry out the work on behalf of Devon County Council. For more information contact Trevor Cook on 01805 622395.
