Information about Teignbridge’s improved waste and recycling service will be dropping through the letterboxes of the district’s homes over the coming months.

Teignbridge is changing its waste and recycling service to make it easier for people to recycle more. The scheme is being rolled out across the district in three phases and will start in September and end in November.

Ahead of roll-out in each area, a four-page leaflet is being delivered to homes. It gives people information about when their new recycling service starts and how they can subscribe to a new optional garden waste collection service.

Residents do not need to do anything yet and should still put out their bins as usual.

Two to four weeks before the changes happen, each home will get:

  • A new food waste container A new reusable sack for recycling paper
  • A new recycling guide and collection calendar
  • A new set of recycling box stickers

The new scheme will include weekly food waste collections, weekly recycling collections to include more mixed plastic packaging and cardboard and an optional garden waste collection that people can subscribe to.

Collection days will not change and the black bins - for things that can’t be recycled, reused or composted - will remain collected fortnightly.

Visit www.teignbridge.gov.uk/newrecyclingservice for more information.

Teignbridge’s waste and recycling team are holding roadshows or attending local events to meet residents, answer any questions and explain the changes.

Cllr Kevin Lake, Teignbridge District Council’s executive member for environmental services, said: “Whenever we’ve talked to residents they’ve told us they’d like to see more plastics collected and weekly food waste collections so we are delighted to be able to provide them with what they have asked for.

"The new recycling scheme will benefit the environment because we will be increasing recycling rates and sending less waste to landfill.

“Over the course of many years our residents have done their bit to ensure we are a clean and green district. We’d like to thank them for that and hope we can build on that great work in the future.

“I’d encourage people to look out for the leaflet. There are opportunities to talk to the team at local roadshows too. If anyone is unsure they can pop in and see them or visit our website where we have a really useful section explaining when the changes come in, what bins and boxes will be used and what goes where.

"In the meantime, people do not need to do anything differently yet and should put their bins and boxes out as usual."
