Residents get stacking in Teignbridge recycling campaign
Residents have been playing their part in improving street cleanliness, with the first monthly winner of Teignbridge District Council’s ‘Operation Stack’ recycling campaign announced.
Mrs Sylvia Mills from Kingskerswell was drawn as November’s winner of a recycling goody bag, containing a set of recycling wine glasses, leftover recipe book and various food waste reducers. The campaign has already seen over 400 thank you cards randomly issued to residents who have been stacking their recycling boxes and food waste containers on collection days.
With the Christmas and New Year period known for generating increased amounts of recycling and food waste, everyone can help keep the district clean by simply stacking their recycling boxes correctly. From plastic food and drink packaging to cardboard boxes and wrapping paper - there's a variety of packaging that can go into your recycling bins, boxes and sacks.
Food waste such as vegetable peelings, turkey bones, plate scrapings, tea bags and coffee grinds, and any out of date food can be put in your blue food waste container, which can be used along with your paper sack to weigh down the contents of your recycling box.
Amidst all the excitement over Christmas and New Year, residents are being reminded of revised collection dates at www.teignbridge.gov.uk/christmascollections and further information about Christmas recycling can be found at www.teignbridge.gov.uk/recyclingatchristmas
Cllr Kevin Lake, Teignbridge District Council's Executive for Environment Services said: “Congratulations to our first monthly winner and thank you also to our residents who are playing a significant role in helping to keep our streets clean by stacking their boxes. Every little bit helps towards our recycling totals.”
Mrs Sylvia Mills, November’s winner said: “I’ve stacked my recycling boxes and food waste containers for some time already and it came as a nice surprise to be drawn as the winner. I would certainly recommend other residents doing the same and stacking makes things much easier for our household on collection days.”
