4 Small DIY Tasks to Brighten up your home this spring
Spring is a time of fresh starts and new beginnings, and refreshing your home is a great place to start. With the opportunity to cast open your windows and enjoy that first fresh spring breeze fast approaching, here are four easy ways to shake off the winter gloom in your home.
4. A lick of paint
A change of colour scheme or even a fresh coat in an existing colour really helps to breathe life into your home. It lets you patch up any dings and marks your walls may have sustained during any of those festive gatherings whilst giving you scope to even change the colour scheme of the soft furnishings. It needn’t be a whole project taking on the whole house, just take it one room at a time! Also, that freshly painted smell really makes you feel as though you’ve just walked into a new home.
3. Refresh your fireplace
Your fireplace, whether used as a source of heat or just as a feature, is a real focal point of a room. Heavy, old fashioned brickwork and dark wooden mantel pieces can make the area feel darker than it actually is. Start by giving the fireplace a good Spring clean (even take the opportunity to sweep the chimney too).
Freshen up the paint or brick work, perhaps add a mirror above it and tidy away any logs and tools. For added cosiness on those Spring evenings, put fairy lights or candles in the fireplace to enjoy the glow but not the heat.
2. Get Green-Fingered
If your room is particularly gloomy despite however many attempts to brighten it, you may find the problem lies outside. Natural sunlight is a superb way to brighten your room, yet trees and bushes are notorious for blocking light.
Get outside and trim back vegetation to allow for maximum amount of light for a maximum length of time. Spring is often a good time to tackle trees, and the longer hours of daylight are likely to send your garden into an explosion of greenery, so the sooner you take control the better!
- New Window Blinds
Fresh window treatments, like the blinds from DotcomBlinds, are a superb way to create a pleasant atmosphere, or add colour or neutrality too a room. Some blinds block out daylight, others let a small amount through.
The fabric comes in a choice of colours patterns and styles and there are so many types of blind out there to choose from: roller blinds, Roman blinds, vertical blinds, metal or wooden venetian blinds and bifold door blinds, so you can always find something for your home.
