With spring in the air, it’s natural that you will be keen to make the most of your own garden. If you’re short of space, or are worried you’ve let things go a bit, don’t worry; here are 7 great ideas to get your garden looking great and ready to enjoy again.

1 De-clutter

If you have kids, the chances are your garden will have toys and other items scattered around. These can find their way into flower beds, water features and many other places, not to mention being a hazard on paths and patios. Take time to clear everything away, from the largest to the smallest. It’s good to have a storage shed or lockable cabinet in the garden, for ease of access; if not, bring toys indoors.

2. Get a Gazebo

A great idea to spruce up any garden, especially if you have an inflatable hot tub. Timber designs can be bought as a set, and are quite easy to set up and create an enclosure (especially if you have a DIYer in the house). The pergola is an extremely popular design, as its timber struts and angular profile add a touch of class; gazebos are excellent ways to keep out the elements, protecting people and keeping the wind away from water surfaces.

3. Clean Up

Once all the obstacles have been removed, give your garden a clean. If you have a lawn, a trim with the hover mower is a quick and effective way to make grass look cared for. There are also excellent products available to get the best out of garden furniture, which can look tired after a long winter. Brush and wash paved areas like patios, and clean gravel paths of dirt (especially dog mess!).

4. Tidy Edges

The edges of garden spaces have a big visual impact. If you have flower beds, tidying up lines with rubber edging is a great idea. You don’t have to spend time on the actual plants, just make sure the edges are neat and straight. Likewise, any lawn areas should be edged to look as neat as possible.

5. Get Things Working

If you have any kind of outbuilding, make sure it’s fit for purpose. This could mean a greenhouse, hut or shed; any of these structures can really bring a garden down if they look derelict, or even unused. If you have doors and windows, get them working properly; oil hinges, replace glass and varnish wood.

6. Use Your Space

As well as horizontal space, use your garden’s vertical lines to get the most out of your outdoors. Planters and trellises are great for adding plant pots, climbers and crafted, artistic items, especially if they add a splash of colour. Make sure you use space carefully, so there is a plan; a well-ordered garden always makes up for a lack of space.

7. Add Furniture

Nothing makes a garden look alive than some garden furniture. There is a huge range on the market, so you can choose what goes best in the space you have available. Even the smallest gardens can fit a small, round table and a couple of chairs; placed in a sunny corner, this added touch is a natural way to attract the eye, and make people want to use your garden.
