Another ten for Bonners Glen!
East Devon District Council and Sanctuary Group have worked together once again to provide extra affordable housing in Axminster.
In 1997 and 2010 Sanctuary completed the first and second phases of the re-development of formerly owned council land to provide 16 homes and a block of 8 flats.
Now a further ten homes have been completed, which sees the successful delivery of the third and final phase of this development. The latest project involved demolishing two empty council properties and replacing them with ten new affordable homes.
By working together, the council and leading housing provider Sanctuary are maximising the growth and opportunity for new affordable homes in Axminster.
Every property meets the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, which encourages the efficient use of energy, reducing domestic household bills for those occupying the new properties. All the affordable properties have been completed and are occupied by local people. As well as providing starter and family homes, this development also provides two ground-floor, one-bedroom flats for individuals with mobility difficulties.
Councillor Jill Elson, East Devon District Council’s cabinet member for sustainable homes and communities, said: “Working in partnership on schemes like this has made it possible for us to deliver additional affordable homes to those in greatest housing need in the district.
“I am delighted that this third phase of our successful partnership working with Sanctuary Housing has now been completed and that we have the joint satisfaction of knowing that ten more much-needed homes have been provided in Axminster.
“The council has an excellent track record for affordable housing provision in recent years and this is another milestone in what will continue to be a major objective for us in the future.”
Justin Cartwright, Sanctuary’s project manager, said: “We are delighted to have completed this new development as part of the wider project in Axminster. The new homes are a welcome addition to the area and underline our commitment to developing affordable properties for the benefit of local people.”
