Anyone who lived through the 1980’s will remember how popular avocado baths were and to say they haven’t aged well would be the understatement of the century. It wasn’t necessarily the baths themselves that were so offensive though, it’s just the fact that they were often paired with bright white “everything else.” Because colour combinations matter, even in the bathroom.

What combinations work best for your sanctuary though? Certain hues can transform your space into a haven of relaxation and self-care while others can make it seem almost as dated as those avocado suites from the decade taste forgot. Whether you're renovating or just looking for some inspiration, a visit to a bathroom showroom can, of course, provide you with some ideas, but here are a few combinations we really rate.

Green – Bold and Luxurious

Green is a colour that exudes luxury and brings a touch of nature indoors. It's a bold choice that can make a significant impact, especially when used in dark shades. Green aligns perfectly with the biophilic design trend, which emphasizes the connection between indoor spaces and nature. To enhance this look, incorporate plants – whether real or artificial – to add freshness and vitality.

Green and Gold: This combination is the epitome of elegance. The richness of green paired with the opulence of gold fixtures creates a lavish atmosphere.

Green and Black: For a modern and sophisticated look, combine green with black. This duo provides a striking contrast that's both stylish and contemporary.

Green and White: If you prefer a fresher, more classic aesthetic, pair green with white. This combination keeps the space bright and airy while still making a statement.

Greys – Timeless and Sophisticated

Grey is a timeless colour that never goes out of style. It's versatile and sophisticated, making it an excellent choice for bathrooms. Grey tones can range from soft pebble shades to darker, more dramatic hues. Marble patterns and textures can add an extra layer of luxury.

Grey with Black Fixtures: A grey bathroom with black fixtures offers a sleek, modern look. The contrast between the soft grey and bold black creates a refined and elegant space.

Grey Marbling: Incorporating marble patterns in grey tones can elevate the bathroom's aesthetic. It adds texture and visual interest while maintaining a neutral palette.

Blues – Natural and Tranquil

Blue is synonymous with tranquility and calm, making it a perfect colour for bathrooms. Light blues can evoke the serenity of the sky or the ocean, creating a peaceful retreat. Blue is incredibly versatile and pairs well with a variety of other colours.

Blue and White: This classic combination brings a sense of freshness and cleanliness to the bathroom. The crisp white balances the calm blue, resulting in an elegant and timeless look.

Blue with Gold Fixtures: For a touch of luxury, pair blue with gold fixtures. This combination adds warmth and sophistication, making the bathroom feel more inviting and stylish.
