The Rise of the 'LBK' (Little Black Kitchen)
Every woman loves her trusted ‘Little Black Dress’; perfect for any occasion as it goes with just about everything in the wardrobe.
This season, however, expect to hear a new phrase – The ‘Little Black Kitchen’ (LBK) – as kitchens across the UK are given some love and change to a desirable gloss black. The UK’s largest home improvement retailer, B&Q has already seen a rise in its black kitchens as trendsetters transform their kitchens with a look that is as dramatic as it is neutral – easily working with any colour scheme in the home.
Specifically, the LBK offers homeowners a neutral palette to work from, allowing for pops of colour to be added throughout. Feature walls also work well in a LBK, adding a bold statement to complement darker kitchens.
And it’s not just black kitchens that are on the rise. The trend to invest in black appliances for the kitchen over white has increased from last year also.
Bill McKimm, Category Director for kitchens at B&Q says: “We have a wide range of kitchens to suit any taste, including two black kitchens which are perfect for those desiring a modern, high end transformation. Black goes with any colour scheme, so is an easy choice for those unsure as to which shade to pick. Team a black kitchen with an exposed brick work wall to help to add an urban contrast to your ultra modern kitchen.”
