Matisse Lithograph exhibition at gloss - Art Exeter
Exeter art lovers are in for a rare treat as an exhibition of original Henri Matisse lithographs has arrived at leading gallery, gloss – Art Exeter.
The iconic French Modernist was one of the most successful artists of the 20th century and was equally accomplished in a range of media including painting, sculpture and fine art prints. He is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp, as one of the three leading artists to revolutionise developments in the plastic arts during his time.
gloss manager Lucinda Cusdin said: “I am absolutely delighted to host this exhibition by one of modern art’s most famous names. It features sixty-seven wonderful original Henri Matisse lithographs, some signed by the artist, spanning his remarkable career as a 20th century modernist.”
Visitors can explore information on the historical use of the lithographic print method through the beautiful Matisse suite, which combines stone, ink and the drawn image to create original limited edition prints.
Lucinda Cusdin added: “The Matisse exhibition includes exclusive works from four different suites; his Last Works, Jazz and Circus, Florilége des Amours Ronsard and Poèmes – Charles D’Orléans.”
“These lithographs in particular really communicate the popular methods of reproduction used by modern masters. Matisse's work shows artistic naivety at it's best and is truly unmissable.”
Matisse Lithographs runs from Saturday 12th January to Saturday 23rd February at gloss-Art Exeter, No.1 Barnfield Crescent, Exeter, EX1 1QT.
