Michelmores launches marathon challenge in support of mental wellbeing
Michelmores has launched a brand new event: the Michelmores Marathon for Mental Wellbeing to help raise funds for national mental health charity the Charlie Waller Trust. The event will challenge participants to run a marathon (26.2 miles) but gives runners the opportunity to spread the distance over seven days and to run the distance as an individual or as part of a team.
The marathon is launched in place of the annual Michelmores 5km Charity Run, an event which typically attracts over 1000 runners to the centre of Exeter.
Louise Edwards, marketing director at Michelmores said: "Our priority continues to be the health and wellbeing of our community so we have decided to host our charity run a little differently this year. Our brand new event is giving everyone the challenge of running a marathon but in a socially distant way. It's a brilliant opportunity to dust off those running shoes, get out into the fresh air and boost your fitness and mental wellbeing. And every penny of the entry fee will go to our charity partner, the Charlie Waller Trust, who do a fantastic job supporting and educating young people in looking after their mental health".
The marathon challenge will take place from Monday 7 June to Sunday 13 June and in that time participants are asked to complete 26.2 miles (42km) in total. Runners can enter as individuals and tackle the distance in one go, or spread the running over the week as they choose. Alternatively, teams of two or four people can club together to cover the distance between them. All participants are asked to simply log their running sessions (of one mile or over) on an app such as Strava or Garmin to record their distance.
Those who sign-up will receive an exclusive Michelmores Marathon for Mental Wellbeing t-shirt as well as an invitation to a mental health webinar hosted by the Charlie Waller Trust. There will also be a range of prizes to win for the fastest participants, most enthusiastic team, best photograph taken en route, and more.
