A budding entrepreneur has opened his first hairdressing business in Ottery St Mary.

At just 19 years of age, Matt Booth is determined to make a success of Alley Barber, a traditional barber’s shop.

After training at the Total Barber Hair Academy in London and serving his apprenticeship in a number of Exeter salons including Gentry and Restyle Barber, Matt decided the time was right to set up on his own.

He said: “I’d just started looking for suitable premises, when I heard the video rental shop in Saddlers Lane was available. It seemed the ideal spot to catch passing trade.”

The shop has received a total makeover, offering a bright, comfortable setting for customers.

Ex Kings School student Matt says he enjoys interacting with customers and having the chance to catch up with them. He hopes to attract a regular clientele with his new venture, including students from the school.

Matt is already thinking big saying: “It’s my ambition to open five shops in Devon within the next few years.”

As a special opening offer, haircuts are available at £6 until the end of July, after which the flat rate price will be £7.

Customers can either walk in or book an appointment on 01404 814234.
