Gary smashes Marathon target
Gary Flint was hoping to raise £1,500 running the London Marathon for local charity Rainbow Living but after completing the grueling 26 miles in a very respectable 4 hours 18 minutes he has smashed this target having raised an incredible £2,300 – and that figure is still climbing!
Supporters have been incredibly generous and Gary is now aiming for a total of £2,500. If you would like to help him achieve this amazing figure you can sponsor him via his Virgin Money Giving page
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GaryFlint. Every pound will be put to very good use.
Talking about the experience this year Gary says: “I’ve run a few marathons now but the London Marathon is completely unique. Partly it’s the range of fellow-travelers on the journey which this year included rhinos, avatars, the cast of Toy Story, Lord Nelson (complete with column) and the Lord Jesus (carrying a cross).”
Gary says it was humbling to see so many people running for charities. “I spent a lot of time reading the messages on the running shirts around me and so many people had deep personal connections with the charities they were supporting. There was an obvious sense of pride in running the marathon, but an even greater pride in making a difference for their chosen causes.”
Ruth Airdrie from Rainbow Living said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Gary for running the marathon on our behalf, and to everyone who has so generously supported him. All money raised will go directly towards a third Rainbow house in the area, making a real difference to the lives of young adults with disabilities.”
If you’ve been inspired by Gary’s story you too can take on a challenge event on behalf of Rainbow Living – there are loads to choose from: running, cycling, triathlons, or swimming events. If you would like to get involved and support Rainbow Living in this way please contact them on 01395 232553 or email treasurer@rainbowliving.org.uk.
