Judi Spiers and Michael Caines cause a stir

Local popular broadcaster Judi Spiers was on hand to help Michael Caines, MBE, to Stir Up some Christmas puddings for local adoption charity Families for Children.

Stir up Sunday is traditionally the day for everyone in the family to take a turn at stirring the Christmas pudding, whilst making a wish.

Last Sunday at Darts Farms Michael and Judi helped adopted children from across the region do just that and create their own Christmas puddings.

Michael, who was adopted into an Exeter family, credits Families for Children with making him the person he is today and often comments about his adoption.

He says: "Families for Children is a charity close to my heart. I am proof adoption does work and gives a huge amount of benefit and joy to the adoptee and parents alike. This is such a wonderful event to get children involved in and is something I have been doing for the charity for many years."

Judi, who is also a Patron of the charity, said: ‘"Forty children in a kitchen all making Christmas puddings sounds like a recipe for DISASTER …but it was great fun watching all the children getting well and truly stuck in! They were all so proud to be taking their own puddings home with them!"

Families for Children have placed over 40 vulnerable children this year with families in Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall. They also support anywhere from 80 to 100 families with their adoption support services which is a vital element of their work to ensure families stay together.

All of the children they place have experienced extreme trauma in their early lives. The agency specialises in placing older children, those in large sibling groups and also children with disabilities and extra needs.
