New Hospiscare shop opens in Heavitree
The people of Heavitree have a new shopping opportunity available to them: a brand-new shop has been opened there by the long established and popular local charity, Hospiscare. The shop was formally opened on Wednesday March 22nd by Paula Lawford, Chair of Exeter Friends, former trustee and founder member of the charity. The shop sells a range of ladies clothes, has an excellent men’s department and an array of electrical goods and homewares.
The new shop will bring the number of retail outlets run by Hospiscare up to twenty-one with shops operating across mid and east Devon including several branches in Exeter itself. The new branch, however, is now physically the closest Hospiscare shop to the charity’s base in Searle House which is situated on Dryden Road within the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
“It is an absolute honour and a delight to be able to open this new Hospiscare shop in Heavitree,” said Paula, a former teacher who helped establish end of life charity Hospiscare back in 1982. “I remember when Hospiscare started, we didn’t even have a physical building to operate from. Now we have Searle House and have seen our retail operation expand from just a small stall at the Quay in Exeter thirty years ago, to the many shops scattered across the area – all raising essential funds for Hospiscare.”
A team of volunteers have signed up to help out in the shop but more are always needed. So anyone interested in a volunteering role is encourgaed to pop into the shop to find out more.
Donations of clothing, electrical goods and homewares will also be very welcome and can be dropped off anytime between the hours of 9am until 4.45pm.
Hospiscare is a local charity, providing free, high quality care and support to people with a progressive life-limiting illness, and those close to them in Exeter, East and Mid Devon. Please call 01392 688020 for more information.
