Rainbow House Three opens in Exeter!
Following four years of fundraising, planning and renovation, local charity Rainbow Living has officially celebrated completion of their third Rainbow House by opening the house up for a special preview.
Supporters turned out in force as the charity’s Trustees and Board greeted over 200 guests during the 2-day event. Visitors had an opportunity to look round the extensively refurbished house, which has included a loft conversion, specialist bathroom and kitchen design, as well as a complete rewire and redecoration. The project also included extensive improvements to the garden and garage conversion.
Rainbow Living provides specially adapted accommodation to enable adults with learning disability to live as independently as possible in supported living, and all of the refurbishment works at the third Rainbow House were made with the individual needs of the new tenants firmly in mind.
As a small volunteer-run Rainbow Living has been reliant on donations and fundraising to bring the third Rainbow House to reality. The charity has been supported by many individuals and organisations; volunteers have raised funds in many different ways, and local businesses such as The Exeter, Teign Valley Golf Club and Sainsbury’s Pinhoe have supported the project through having Rainbow Living as their Charity of the Year. The generous contributions of grant making trust and foundations were pivotal too.
Ruth Airdrie from Rainbow Living said: “We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to every single person who has helped - in so many different ways - to make our third Rainbow House a reality; each and every one has made a real and lasting difference to the lives of the young adults whom we support – one of our new tenants has already said the third Rainbow house is her ‘forever house’ which says it all really!
“None of what we do would be possible without such amazing support and we are very grateful to everyone who has been involved. Our newest Rainbow tenants will be moving into their new home in the next few weeks and I know they are very excited about this next step on their journey.”
