150 years of foster Care in the SW
Regional Foster Placements Foster Carers have collectively provided over 150 years of dedication to supporting children and young people in the south west. A celebration and award ceremony to honour their valuable work will take place on 9 December at Cullompton Community Centre.
This very special event will celebrate the outstanding work done by Regional Foster Placement‘s Carers, many of whom have worked for the agency for over ten years. Between them they have helped change the lives of many hundreds of children.
Mark Breeze, Regional Manager commented: "We wanted to do something special to say a big thank you to our carers both old and new and we thought about a theme of 100 years of fostering. After a brief count up we soon realised we could easily get to nearer 200 years so settled on 150 years! That is some achievement and what an incredibly valuable contribution to the lives of children who in so many cases have suffered trauma, neglect and abuse."
Press are invited to run stories and attend this special event, and they will have the opportunity to interview our Carers and to find out about the many challenges and rewards of fostering and their outstanding contributions to the welfare of children. They are also welcome to watch the award ceremony, take photographs and speak to the support team. Our Carer’s come from all walks of life and from all parts of the south west, and we particularly welcome local press from all parts of Somerset, Cornwall and Devon.
The need for foster carers has never been so great. There are around 4,200 children in foster care in the south west, and the number of children in the care of local authorities has risen to 69,540 in the UK this year - the highest in 30 years. It is therefore invaluable to recognise the dedication of our foster carers.
Regional Foster Placements, who’s head office is in Plymouth, is an established and independent family-run fostering agency, which recruits and supports Foster Carers throughout the south west. The agency provides extensive support and training to Foster Carers, enabling placements to be therapeutic, positive, stable and secure. Fostering, although a highly demanding choice, can be very rewarding and we are always actively recruiting suitable Foster Carers to help with the demand across the south west. We hold regular drop-in events, where anyone interested can have an informal chat with one of our experienced members of staff, or we can be contacted by freephone number, email, or through our website.
