Powderham Castle's picturesque grounds witnessed an extraordinary turnout on the 7th and 8th of October as the annual Powderham Food Festival welcomed over 11,000 enthusiastic attendees across the two days. This exceptional gathering marked a historic moment for the festival, showcasing the public’s appetite for culinary delights and family-friendly entertainment.

Unlike previous years, organisers opted to host the festival free of charge this year, with any proceeds made from donations and purchases going towards the essential maintenance of Powderham Castle, preserving it for generations to come.

Food enthusiasts and families travelled from far and wide to indulge in the cuisines on offer, from Lebanese classics and Caribbean staples to Greek delicacies and Mexican street food, there was an abundance of food on offer to please even the most discerning festival goer.

Independent traders also adorned the grounds, bringing tasty treats and home made sweet and savoury goods to attendees who wanted to take a slice of the festival home with them. With coffee from Wavi Coffee and BarEasta, jams and chutneys from The Cherry Tree, chocolate from Josh’s Chocolate and Exe Chocolate, sweet treats from Cookie Queen and Edwards Fudge Kitchen, there were plenty of locally produced keepsakes up for grabs.

As well as showcasing a number of local producers and creators, this year's festival was all about creating memorable family moments. With chocolate sculpting, a miniature railway, a Shaun the Sheep AR Trail, climbing wall, face painting and plate spinning, there was something for every member of the family to enjoy. Parents and kids were also kept entertained by the incredible Dan the Hat, a crowd-pleasing performer with a flair for juggling and comedy.

The festival also saw the return of their famous chilli eating competition. There wasn’t a dry eye left in the room after a selection of brave pundits dared to brave the heat as they battled for the title of Chilli Champion. Hosted by Clifton Chilli Club, the challenge saw attendees chomp down on some of the hottest chillies available, with just one winner being crowned on each day.

Powderham Food Festival has firmly established itself as a beloved fixture on the culinary calendar, celebrating fine food and drink from all across the region. With a diverse lineup of events and activities that captivated visitors of all ages, this year's festival was a memorable experience for families, foodies, and fun-seekers alike.

This record-breaking turnout at the Powderham Food Festival not only highlights the passion for unique culinary experiences but also showcases the community's enthusiasm for local events. As a celebration of food, family, and culture, the festival continues to cement its place as a beloved annual tradition in Devon.
