Exeter Wheelers feature in road safety video
The Exeter based cycling club Exeter Wheelers played an integral part in the filming of the SPACE; a road safety video created by Chris Boardman and BikeBiz editor Carlton Reid.
The video titled SPACE has now gone viral online with over 45,000 views in less than 24 hours aims to educate drivers on how much room a cyclist or group of riders need when overtaking them.
As Boardman points out, riders aren't just an obstacle to be avoided, they are people's loved ones.
Filmed on the Devon Travel Academy test circuit at the Westpoint centre the video features master driving instructor Blaine Walsh who says: "Overtaking is one of the riskiest things you can do as a driver. It's critical to get it right, for your safety and the safety of other road users. Sadly you don't have to search YouTube very hard to find some incredibly dangerous and close overtaking of cyclists."
Exeter Wheelers will also be hosting their annual hillclimb on September 19th, this years festival promises to be a great family weekend on closed roads offering an open event for hillclimb specialists, a team challenge to help raise money for the Exeter Deaf Academy and a youth event for the kids to enjoy the challenge.
