Chiefs and Sandy Park donate unused stock to NHS
Even in these tough times, Sandy Park and Exeter Chiefs are looking to play their part in helping the local community - particularly those working on the frontline - whose efforts are going above and beyond.
With planned fixtures and events postponed for the foreseeable future, it’s meant that Sandy Park has been left with stock items that would normally have been consumed by our many visitors.
Rather than let them go to waste and go past their expiry dates, the Sandy Park team collated the stock and have been out and about helping to distribute it across three facilities at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and the Estuary League of Friends in Topsham.
Items which have been donated include cans of soft drink, fruit juice, small cans of beers, chocolate bars and packets of crisps.
Marcus Cottle, Head of Food and Beverage at Sandy Park, has been overseeing the delivery of items to the three venues and says he’s delighted that the company has been able to give something to those many men and women who are helping to fight the current Covid-19 outbreak.
“I think all of us appreciate the amazing efforts that are being carried out daily by staff of the NHS and all key workers,” said Cottle. “If we can do anything to give back to them or assist them, then we are more than happy to do so.
“Rather than seeing some of our stock intended for fixtures and events here at Sandy Park just go into the bin, we felt it would be a great idea to give it to those organisations who are working tirelessly around the clock for others.
“We know we have supporters from staff at all three of the venues we have donated to, so it’s nice that we can give back to them in this time of need.”
Lucy Chambers, Enhance Supportive Care Nurse at Musgrove Park Hospital, added: “We are so grateful to Sandy Park and the Chiefs for the donations they have made. The items will be used for not only patients on our wards, but also in our well-being hubs that the doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital use.
“Donations like this are being used to help set-up home trolleys that we are creating to allow patients to have as many home comforts available to them during their time in hospital.”
