Eight races and family entertainment at Exeter Racecourse tomorrow
Exeter Racecourse’s annual family day will be a feast of entertainment for racing fans with an eight race card coming under starters orders at 2.20pm and two pony races prior to that. With a host of free activities too and a running race for children down the home straight it will be an action-packed day of entertainment
A selling hurdle begins the day and runners include the Martin Keighley-trained The Wexfordian who was a well-backed favourite to land a two mile handicap chase at Southwell a couple of weeks ago, failing by a length and three quarters. Before that run he was beaten three quarters of a length in a selling hurdle at the same course and he should go close today. Also among the runners is the Ian Williams-trained Gambol who won a conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Stratford last month.
The Dan Skelton-trained Shantou Rock makes a quick reappearance under a penalty in the City of Exeter Challenge Cup Handicap Hurdle having easily won a two mile handicap hurdle at Ludlow last week and he’ll be a warm order to add to his tally.
In the Exeter Audi Novices’ Handicap Chase the Tom George-trained Nancy’s Trix is an interesting chase debutante on the back of some decent enough hurdles form, most latterly at Southwell in December where he finished third in a three mile handicap hurdle. There were a couple of winners since behind him that day, including the multiple winning Master Burbidge. He has winning point-to-point form, and it will be interesting to see how he handles his first start over the bigger obstacles.
Jonjo O’Neill saddles Clubs Are Trumps in the Luxury Lodges For Sale at Finlake Handicap Chase just three days after he was the easy winner of a two miles seven and a half furlongs handicap chase at Chepstow with today’s jockey, Jordan Canavan on board.
Anthony Honeyball’s Dorset team have been in the form of their life, and Dragoon Guard in the first division of the two mile seven furlong handicap hurdle, sponsored by Finlake Holiday Park, will attract plenty of attention with top amateur Will Gordon taking a useful 7lb off his back. Gordon came off the six-year-old at Plumpton two weeks ago when he was badly hampered, but he was fancied to go well that day and could make amends here.
In the second division, the Jeremy Scott-trained That’s Gonna Sting could return to form with is stable in such good order. He pulled up three weeks ago at Warwick, but he’s won off a mark just four pounds lower and Robert Hawker takes seven pounds off today.
The Relax Discover Explore with Haulfryn Holidays Novices’ Handicap Hurdle looks wide open with the Charlie Longsdon-trained Treacle Tart deserving to get her nose in front after running well in defeat on her last two starts.
The Totnes and Bridgetown Open Hunters Chase concludes the card and Dai Williams’ Lord Ben should go well after a handful of fine efforts in hunter chases this season.
Gates open at 12.20pm with the children's running race at 1pm.
