Exeter School celebrates excellent A-level results
As Exeter School commemorates its 20th year of full co-education, it is celebrating a set of excellent A-level results, with a 100% pass rate.
Thirty-nine pupils scored three or more A* or A grades, with 23% of all results at A*. 61% of all grades were A* or A, with 91% at A*, A or B.
Head Boy George Milner scooped four A*s, securing his offer to read Medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. George was selected for the U17 Junior Hockey Regional Performance Centre and played for the school 1st XI in the West Indoor Hockey Finals.
Head Girl Sophie Jefferson achieved AAA and goes on to study Medicine at Nottingham University. Sophie played for the U18 England hockey team and represented the school in the U16 National Indoor Finals, as well as Isca Hockey Club in national tournaments. Sophie played in the 1st XI that won the U18 Devon title in 2017, and played netball for the Devon Regional Academy.
"I have had the full support of teachers and taken part in lots of extracurricular activities in a really friendly environment," she said.
Elite sportswoman and House Captain Charlie Green received four medical offers and gained three A*s, enabling her to study Medicine at Bristol University. Charlie represented England at netball and water polo. She recently played a lead role in the school's production of Guys & Dolls.
Ben Bliss achieved two A*s and one A and will study Chemistry at Birmingham University. While at Exeter School, he has led the orchestra and played hockey for the 1st XI. He loved the recent choral tour to Manhattan. He said he had enjoyed every minute at Exeter School since joining aged 10 and that it had been packed with opportunities.
Sammy Sargent Music Scholar Tara Brind scored two A*s and one A and is going to read Veterinary Science at Bristol University. She played alto saxophone in numerous school concerts and helped the school equestrian team achieve many successes. She achieved a Gold Award in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge and a Silver Award in Biology Olympiad.
Talented musician and House Captain Verity Stroud secured her offer to study Music at Manchester University. She holds Grade 8 certificates in bassoon, piano and singing. Verity played with the South-West Youth Orchestra for both bassoon and contra bassoon.
She said: "I have had such a wonderful time at Exeter School, with so many opportunities. This year was particularly memorable, playing Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, singing Bach in the National Trust concert and solo alto in Choral Society, all topped off with my favourite bassoon concerto at the Wateraid concert! I'd like to thank all the staff who supported me throughout my whole career."
Senior Prefect Tristan May represented the school in football and rugby; his 1st XV made the last 16 of the U18 National Cup and won the U18 Colston's Sevens Plate in 2017. With his two A*s and one A grade, he is off to study Economics at Bath University.
Headmaster Bob Griffin said he was very pleased with these results, which are testament to the shared endeavours of pupils, staff and parents.
"These results enable our pupils to fulfil their dreams of studying a wide range of stimulating courses at leading teaching and research universities, and we wish them all every happiness," he said.
