A mum from Exeter is all smiles after winning a Saturday Street Prize cheque for £10,000, thanks to charity lottery, People’s Postcode Lottery.

Trudi Sandford, 37, had only just returned home with her young son from hospital when People’s Postcode Lottery Street Prize Presenter, Judie McCourt, knocked on her door. Trudi, who has only been playing the Lottery since May this year, was overjoyed to discover her postcode in the EX1 area had won her £10,000.

“I’m definitely still overwhelmed by it all,” said Trudi. “I had literally been home for a minute or two when the team at the People’s Postcode Lottery showed up. We had just brought my son, Harry, back from hospital so none of us expected Judie McCourt to arrive with a £10,000 cheque! It was a lovely surprise after a long day.”

Trudi decided to sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery to help raise money for local charities and good causes supported by players of the Lottery. One local charity that has directly benefitted from players’ support is Bideford Bay Surf Life Saving based in Exeter. The project enables children to excel in the skill and sport of surf lifesaving.

“I was happy to sign up as I knew it would benefit a lot of good causes,” said Trudi. “It never crossed my mind that I would benefit so much.”

As well as putting some of her winnings towards their mortgage, Trudi is keen to treat her husband Jason, 38, along with their three sons, George, 9, Harry,7, and four year old Ben.

“Harry is just recovering from a small operation,” said Trudi. “It’s nothing serious but once he’s up and running again, we’ll have a proper family celebration. I still can’t believe it – things like this don’t happen to us.”

People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador Judie McCourt said; “We gave Trudi a pretty big shock when we showed up but I’m sure it was worth it. I could tell she was over the moon but I think she’s still trying to process it all. I’m delighted for her and her family.”

This is not the first time this year there has been a winner from Exeter. In July, Peter Sergeant was thrilled to win £100,000 and a BMW.

It’s not just the winners who benefit from playing People’s Postcode Lottery. With £30.3 million raised by players for charities and good causes across the country, hundreds of communities throughout Great Britain have experienced first-hand the positive impact this crucial funding makes.
