Police are investigating after £20,000 cash was stolen during a burglary at a home in Winkleigh, Devon.

Offenders forced their way into the property in Exeter Road through the garage overnight on Tuesday 14 July.

They located the safe and removed £20,000 cash, £11,000 of which was in £50 notes.

PC Matthew Gwenter, based at Barnstaple police station, said the cash was the only item stolen from the premises.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the offence or has seen someone with an unusually large quantity of £50 notes.

“This is obviously a substantial sum of money and we are particularly keen to hear about any individual who appears to have inadvertently come into a large amount of cash that they cannot explain.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by phone on 101 or email at 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk quoting crime reference CR/049429/15.
