Previously reported:

At 3.45pm officers and emergency services were called to a multiple-vehicle collision involving four cars and an HGV on the motorway between junctions 29 and 28.

The vehicles were involved in a shunt-type collision at the end of a tailback caused by an earlier collision on the same stretch of carriageway.   A Shropshire man, the driver of a black Ford Focus, sustained serious injuries and died at the scene. Formal identification has not taken place although next of kin have been informed.   Three other people, one man and two women, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.   The northbound carriageway was closed and diversions were put in place.   A section of the central reservation was later removed to allow a large volume of static northbound traffic to travel back to Exeter via the southbound carriageway.   All traffic was cleared by 8.10pm but the road was not reopened until around 3.30am (6 December).   Officers from the Force Serious Collisions Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.   Anyone with information is asked to contact Exeter Serious Collisions Investigation Unit by telephoning 101, quoting log number 521 of 05/12/12.
