500 ducklings perish in blaze

Fire crews were called to a report of an agricultural shed well alight at Blackborough.

One fire appliance from Cullompton, one fire appliance from Honiton, one water bowser from Danes Castle and one off road vehicle from Middelmoor were dispatched to the incident at 9.40pm yesterday (THURS).

When crews arrived they identified an agricultural shed well alight involving three propane cylinders and sadly approximately 500 ducklings. Crews got to work extinguishing the fire with the use of the fogging unit from the off road vehicle.

The crews extinguished the fire however the building was 100 per cent damaged by fire. The propane cylinders were checked with the use of a thermal imaging camera and have been deemed safe.

Once the crews ensured the fire was fully out and made the area safe the crew handed the care of property over to the owner.
