Another success for Exeter’s Really Big Quiz

Exeter’s 13th annual Really Big Quiz was once again an outstanding evening raising an impressive £6,411 for the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity, The Exeter Foundation.

Organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, the quiz took place at the Corn Exchange in Exeter. The hall was filled with 73 teams representing local firms, all eager to win the title of Exeter’s brainiest business.

Guests enjoyed an exciting evening, where teams were put to the test answering challenging quiz questions presented by John Coombs and Adrian Hemmings of Simpkins Edwards. This was followed by an auction and raffle hosted by the exuberant auctioneer James Morrish of Kivells.

True to form, Mr Morrish encouraged everyone to pay an extra £1 to participate in a lighthearted game of Heads or Tails. This, together with the auction, raffle and money raised from entry fees contributed to the £6,411 cheque presented to the Lord Mayor and Tina Priestly from The Exeter Foundation.

The champion team on the night was from ATASS Ltd, which this year entered a total of five teams. This year’s triumph marks a hat-trick for the company that has also won the title of Exeter’s brainiest business for the previous two consecutive years.

As winner for the third year running, ATASS Ltd was presented with the sought-after trophy to keep, along with some well-earned champagne. Adding to the excitement, teams from Alphington Women’s Institute and First Data Bank were forced into a tiebreaker to decide the final rankings for second and third place, which saw First Data Bank take runner-up and collect its prizes of bottles of wine, with Alphington Women’s Institute enjoying boxes of chocolates.

“We’re thrilled that so many teams took part in this year’s Really Big Quiz to help raise a fantastic amount for the Lord Mayor’s charity,” said John Coombs, Partner at Simpkins Edwards. “We’d like to congratulate ATASS Ltd for once again taking the top spot – we hope the trophy takes pride of place in your office! Thank you also to all the organisations that generously donated prizes for the auction and raffle.”

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Olwen Margaret Foggin added: “We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support of The Exeter Foundation and pay tribute to all the hard work from Simpkins Edwards in the running of 13th Really Big Quiz, in honour of the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity.”

Adrian Hemmings of Simpkins Edwards added: “We’d also like give a mention to the excellent Sea Cadets who once again helped the event run smoothly.  We’re delighted that the quiz was such a huge success and an enjoyable evening for all involved.”
