Appeal after Eldery Woman Injured in Exeter Mugging

Police have launched a public appeal after an 86-year-old woman was injured in a mugging near St Thomas Pleasure Ground in Exeter on Sunday morning.

The woman suffered arm and shoulder injuries and was treated at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. She was also very shaken by the incident.

The incident took place sometime between 8:00am and 9:00am on Sunday (13 April) when a man stole the elderly vicitm’s handbag on a footpath running between the St Thomas  pleasure ground and Buller road.

The male offender is described as white, 6ft tall of a medium build and wearing a black top and jeans. He is also thought to have had his face covered during the robbery.

The  victim, who walks with the aid of a metal walking stick, was injured during the struggle. She received treatment for her injuries at hospital and has since been released.

Her bag is described as a black small handbag with two straps. It contained a very small amount of cash and a bus pass.

She was wearing a black coat and trousers as well as a beige peak cap  at the time of the offence.

Police are asking that anyone who  was in the area at the time and may have seen the offender o knows he is to please  contact 101 and quote crime number DE/14/3458 or call crime stopper anonymously on 0800 555 111.
