Batten down the hatches, it's a windy rainy Monday
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain today. Heavy rain is likely to affect parts of South West England and South Wales this morning accompanied by strong southerly winds.
The public are being warned that there may be a risk of localised surface water flooding, more especially in urban areas and affecting roads around the rush hour. Already there are reports of very slow traffic on A377 Alphington Road in Exeter around Seven Stars traffic lights. However, there is some good news, as the lane blockage on the A30 westbound in Ide near Alphington Junction, which was caused by an earlier broken down lorry, has now cleared.
The heavy rain should ease around the middle of this morning, but more heavy rain is likely later today for which a further warning may be required. Therefore the public are advised to monitor the web site for updates.
An active frontal system will move northwards across southwest England and Wales this morning. It is likely to bring 15-25 mm of rain fairly widely, falling in some 6 hours, with a risk of over 40 mm on higher ground.
Overnight it is thought that the rain will clear slowly eastwards, leaving a mixture of brighter spells and scattered showers. These will be heavy at times during the afternoon, especially in the west. Remaining windy and mild.
