Become the best paper plane thrower in the world!
Red Bull Paper Wings, the world’s biggest and most exciting international paper plane competition is back. The contest, now is in its fifth edition, will see entrants from 61 countries around the world, including an estimated 300 from the UK, compete to become the 2019 Paper Wings World Champion.
Participants can test their creativity, imagination and technical paper plane skills by entering one of three categories: distance, airtime and aerobatics. Using only one piece of A4 paper participants who enter the longest distance category must design a plane capable of traveling the furthest possible distance in the air, while those who enter the longest airtime category must design a plane that will remain air bound for the longest possible time. Demonstrating creativity and an understanding of aeronautics is no mean feat, yet previous Champions have designed planes capable of travelling 53.22 metres and remaining in the air for 14.36 seconds
Individuals interested in entering the aerobatics division must record a paper plane show video of up to 60 seconds and upload it to Instagram using the handle @RedBullUK and #RedBullPaperWings. The aerobatics final will be judged by legendary snowboarder, Bill Morgan and kite surfer, Tom Bridge.
The UK qualifiers will be held in Exeter, Glasgow and Loughborough on the 11th, 18th and 25th March respectively. The national winner from each category will win a place in the World Final held at the iconic Hangar-7, Salzburg Airport in Austria on 18th May. The world champion of each class will win a weekend experience at the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, where they will watch the world’s best racing pilots navigate a challenging aerial obstacle course in the fastest time.
