With its beautiful views of the River Exe, abundance in restaurants and beautiful architecture, Exeter is secretly a very romantic city. If you’re enjoying being single for the first time in a while, or are looking to fall back in love with the dating scene, then it’s a great time to reacquaint yourself with some of the best places to eat and drink in this dreamy university town.

Angela’s Restaurant

A little out of the way of Exeter’s city centre, this locally-run restaurant is somewhere unique to take a date. If you’ve been on a few dates so far and are looking to kick the standard up a notch, then Angela’s Restaurant has some of the best food Exeter has to offer. If you want to impress your date withgreat seafood, good wine, and even better customer service, then this is your best bet.

The Salutation Inn

If you and your date want somewhere fancy but with a touch of the familiar, then The Salutation Inn is a real crowd-pleaser. Depending on just how fancy you plan on going, you can have your fill of anything from four to eight-course menus. If you’re a few dates in and want to impress with some sophistication, this is a great place to try out.

Doctor Ink’s Curiosities

If you’re using dating apps or online dating websites, then bars offer the perfect place to meet your date for the first time. It can be a test on the nerves to sit down for an entire meal with a potential love-interest, so taking them for a drink first is the best way to create a connection and keep it relaxed. Whether you’re looking for someone like-minded, or one of the many older women looking for younger men, then a cocktail bar is your trusty go-to venue. Doctor Ink’s Curiosities is an award-winning bar that has an impressive array of cocktails that make for an enjoyable evening and the perfect way to break the ice. If you’re looking to return during the day, they even do an Afternoon Tea!

Rina Patisserie

If the idea of a three-course meal and cocktail in the evening seems far too intimidating, then going somewhere for a light-hearted bite to eat is a great way to lift some of the pressure. Picking a local bakery or coffee shop to go on a date during the day keeps your date setting informal and with much less expectation for a romantic setting – which helps if you’re on a first date, or even a blind date. Rina Patisserie is the perfect example of somewhere to go that feels special and informal. Locally made pastries and a coffee from a local artisan baker has a certain Rom-Com feel, particularly if things go well!

Don’t just look at restaurants when it comes to dating in Exeter. With so many local businesses providing a romantic backdrop, it would be a shame to restrict yourself to a three-course, sit down meal. Hit the town in the evenings or meet your date during the day for some coffee; enjoy what Exeter has to offer you as a single person.
