CALMFLOOR expands to Exeter Science Park amid rapid growth

A company born from research conducted by three PhD students at the University of Exeter 18 years ago has relocated to Exeter Science Park as it continues its rapid expansion.

CALMFLOOR, a pioneering provider of low-carbon solutions to complex building vibration issues, has moved into office space at the Science Park Centre after outgrowing its previous premises.

The company’s innovative plug-in unit, powered by multi-frequency software control, targets specific areas of a building where vibration needs to be managed. Unlike traditional methods - which often require adding steel beams, extra columns, pouring concrete, or installing tuned mass dampers - CALMFLOOR’s technology provides a faster, more cost-effective, and minimally disruptive alternative. Its units, which are manufactured in Colyton, can be installed in less than a day in both new and existing buildings and are adaptable to future layout changes.

As part of its expansion, CALMFLOOR is also set to open a New York office in April 2025, following a surge in demand in the United States.

Steven Senior, COO at CALMFLOOR, said: “We are delighted to open our new office at Exeter Science Park. Demand for our product has never been higher, and as the company grows, we needed a flexible space that could grow with us—something that Exeter Science Park offers.

“Location was also key. With our expanding team, accessibility was a priority, and we had outgrown our previous space. The excellent transport links, including proximity to the M5 and the airport, were major factors in our decision.”

Steven added: “Given our academic roots, Exeter Science Park is the perfect fit. A couple of our team members have already worked here, and it’s a hub for scaling businesses. The additional breakout areas, meeting rooms, and conference spaces will be invaluable as we continue to grow.”

Jason Buck, Senior Business Development Manager at Exeter Science Park, said: “We’re pleased to welcome CALMFLOOR to our growing community. This is an exciting time for them, and we are committed to supporting their continued success. Our flexible leases, range of office and lab spaces, and tailored business support services make Exeter Science Park an ideal environment for innovative companies looking to scale.”
