Can we bank on the weather this weekend?

It's a bit of a mixed bag for weather this holiday weekend, there's sunshine, clouds and even outbreaks of thundery showers expected.

A yellow warning for rain has been issued for Saturday with showers, some of them heavy and thundery, together with outbreaks of rain spreading north across much of England and Wales, elsewhere we will see sunny spells. The south and southeast of England will again become warm and humid as the day progresses.

Sunday will start cloudy for many with some rain around. This will break up to leave a day of sunny spells, although some showers will be slow moving and could be locally heavy with a risk of thunder.

Monday is likely to be a day of scattered, light showers and sunny spells for most. Feeling fresher with temperatures close to the August average, although parts of the southeast could be locally rather warm.

During the weekend everywhere should see some dry, sunny weather at some point, so there'll be plenty of opportunities to get out and about and take part in many of the events going on this weekend.

Guy Addington, Community Incident Reduction Manager with the RNLI said: "We want people to enjoy our beautiful coastline, but make sure they do it safely. Conditions can change quickly at the beach, so it is really important to respect the water and take extra care when visiting the coast. If you want to swim in the sea we would advise you do so at a lifeguarded beach. RNLI lifeguards are always happy to answer any questions or advise of any risks, including where any rip currents may be, which can catch out even the most experienced swimmers.

"Check tide times, tide height and weather conditions for the day. If you intend to take part in activities on the water, such as kayaking, always wear a flotation device and carry a means of communication so you can raise the alarm if you find yourself in trouble. If you spot anyone in difficulty at the coast ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

The five day regional forecast for Devon is as follows:

This Evening and Tonight:
This evening will be dry with some good sunny spells before dusk. This will lead to a mainly dry night with clear skies, although showers are expected to spread into the south later. Turning misty in rural spots. Minimum Temperature 12 °C.

Saturday:
West Devon and Cornwall should have a mainly dry day on Saturday with a little sunshine. East Devon, Somerset and Dorset will be cloudier with a risk of heavy showers. Maximum Temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Showers on Sunday could become become heavy and thundery in places. Rather cloudy on Monday with a few showers. Cloudy on Tuesday with a little rain in the west.
