Princesshay will host the Farms for City Children Tractor Appeal on Saturday 17th December, with their vintage Massey Ferguson 165 as well as entertainment from local musicians and performers to bring Christmas cheer to visitors in the city.

Farms for City Children have launched their fundraising campaign to raise £20,000 to replace the old worn out tractor used on the farm in Devon.

Founded in 1976 by Michael and Clare Morpurgo, Farms for City Children offers urban children from across the country an opportunity to live and work on a real farm for a week. The charity provides a ‘learning through doing’ experience involving children in all aspects of the farm, from learning where food comes from, the husbandry of the animals to working together as a team.

Founder, Michael Morpurgo says: “Children visiting our farms learn a range of skills through hands-on experiences. They work together, looking after the animals, mucking out stables and sheds, digging the ground, planting, weeding and helping grow the vegetables they eat for their dinner. They know that everything they do is useful and important and get a real sense of achievement from their time with us.”

In support of the charity tractor appeal, Christmas shoppers visiting Princesshay on Saturday 17th December, will be able to enjoy music from local performers throughout the day including Holly Morwenna, Exeter Phoenix Choir, Tedburn Community Choir, Hatherleigh Silver Band and the pop up dance group – Way to Fitness.
