East Devon’s village halls and community buildings have successfully applied for another £7,016 of funding from East Devon District Council (EDDC).

The Community Building Fund is a grants scheme that helps community buildings projects, with East Devon District Council offering grants of anything up to £5,000.

The funding has been put in place to help local village community buildings all around East Devon. Buildings eligible for funding can apply on the basis that they need refurbishments. This could include items such as the toilet facilities, kitchen facilities, roof repairs, heating and door fixtures and changes of a similar kind.

The projects receiving funding are:

• Chardstock Village Hall - £1,156 towards replacing their fire doors to reduce energy costs and increase security
• West Hill Village Hall - £1,360 to help with car park resurfacing
• Hawkchurch Village Hall - £4,500 towards replacing their 35 year old kitchen

There is no money left in the fund this financial year. When the funding does become available again details will appear here.

East Devon District Councillor Jim Knight, Chairman of the Community Building Fund said: “The great projects put forward by village halls within the district shows a sense of community and the willingness to keep a communal area running for the local residents. I am really pleased that we can keep this valuable fund going despite current financial circumstances.”
