Could you help write a new chapter for Devon’s libraries?
Applications are open for an exciting new role to help shape the future of libraries in Devon.
Devon County Council is seeking an experienced and forward thinking Chair to lead the new independent ‘mutual’ organisation they are setting up to run the library service on their behalf from April next year.
This is a unique opportunity to make a difference, provide inspirational leadership and play a significant role in laying the foundations of and shaping the future for the new organisation.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to lead change, build and maintain positive relationships and have a passion for the value of public libraries.
Cllr Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for the library service, said: “This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of a modern, vibrant and sustainable library service for Devon.
“The Chair will have an important role in the formation, launch and future development of the new independent organisation that will run the library service so we are looking for someone who can provide independent, ambitious and informed leadership.
“Much work has been done towards the establishment of this new organisation, but the coming months will see even more progress with a business plan in preparation and contracts to negotiate.
“We need to appoint a Chair now so they can be part of shaping the foundations of the organisation and be its independent voice during this critical stage.
“The closing date is the 22nd of June, so I would encourage everyone who is interested to get in touch soon.”
Full details of the role, including a briefing pack, are available online at http://www.devon.gov.uk/libraries-chair.htm
