Council to honour those who have shown commitment to community transport

Devon County Council is looking to honour those who have shown dedication and commitment to community transport in the county at its 14th annual Community Transport Awards.

Nomination forms are now available from the County Council and submissions are invited before the closing date of Monday 15 April. Anyone working in the community transport sector can be nominated by passengers, staff or volunteers.

The ceremony, which will be held in Exeter on Friday 7 June, includes the award for Best Contribution to the Local Community, which is open to all community transport groups.

The important role of volunteers will be recognised in the category for Community Transport Volunteers, with one person being selected overall as the ‘Community Transport Volunteer of the Year’. There will also be an Outstanding Lifetime Contribution award and paid staff can be nominated in the category of Employee of the Year.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “This popular annual awards ceremony always receives a positive response because community transport touches many people’s lives and really makes a difference. The awards are an opportunity to say thank you to everyone involved in community transport, and as they are open to staff, volunteers and groups we would invite as many nominations as possible to show our appreciation.”

Nomination forms are available online at: www.devon.gov.uk/communitytransportawards or by calling Devon County Council’s Community Transport Team on 01392 382123.
