Cranbrook community star in short film
A short film commissioned by East Devon District Council charting the development of Cranbrook has been released.
Recording took place when the community came together to celebrate ‘Cranbrook Day’ on 29 June last year, an event that included consultation undertaken by East Devon Volunteer Support Agency (EDVSA), to find out what residents would like to see in the Cranbrook of the future.
The film shows that while bricks and mortar build a new town, it is the people that make a place. Work started in June 2011 and now Cranbrook has almost 1,000 occupied homes, making an estimated population of around 2,200.
Cllr Andrew Moulding, Deputy Leader of East Devon District Council, said:
“This is the second film we have had made and it is fascinating to see people building their lives in Cranbrook and see how all the planning over a period of more than ten years is making a difference to the lives of local people. The first film was recorded on the day the show homes opened nearly three years ago; it is amazing how far we have come in that time.”
Results of a recent community survey revealed that 88% of respondents feel Cranbrook is a good place to live, 86% get on well with the people they meet and like the community spirit and friendly people. Similarly, 86% feel well informed about what is going on in the community.
The survey also found that 49% of people moved to Cranbrook from the Exeter area, 28% from elsewhere within East Devon and 16% from elsewhere in Devon. Only 7% came from outside of Devon and most of these came from the wider South West.
In September, Cranbrook will see the doors of Cranbrook’s first secondary school and second primary school open, with the railway station and neighbourhood shops also opening and the milestone of 1,000 homes being occupied.
The film was made by local production company Pangaea TV and is now available on YouTube, via the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point and East Devon District Council websites.
