Cumberland grange helps hospital radio Exeter celebrate 50 years
In celebration of 50 years, Hospital Radio Exeter recorded their special celebration show from Cumberland Grange Care Home to honour Jo one of Cumberland Granges residents who was one of the very first volunteers to set up and start Hospital Radio Exeter.
Hospital Radio Exeter is the Radio Station for the patients of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) and residents of Care Homes in the Exeter area and is manned completely by volunteers.
Richard and Julia, husband and wife who volunteer each week for the radio station interviewed resident Jo asking her all about when she first started which was a very special moment. What was even more special was that Malcolm, Chairman of Hospital Radio Exeter was also present at this wonderful recording and he worked alongside Jo all of those years ago.
Richard and Julia also spoke with residents Brian and Avril who share wonderful memories and some rather funny stories about what they were up to 50 years ago.
The show will be broadcast on the Hospital Radio Exeter station on Sunday the 24th March 3pm – 4pm. You can tune in on the mobile app, smart speakers, online or if you are in hospital you can listen for free via the bedside TV.
Marc Chudley, General Manager at the home, said: “This was a truly special and heart warming moment for Jo. To be back on the radio and to re-connect with an old colleague was just lovely to see and be a part of. Our residents had a fantastic afternoon singing along, dancing and listening to Jo, Brian and Avril speak. We are looking forward to gathering together and listening in this Sunday at 3pm.’
