Exeter School Lower Sixth Former Daniel Wilcock has been selected to be a Lord Lieutenant's cadet. He is the fourth pupil in eleven years to receive this honour.

The Lord Lieutenant of Devon is appointed by the Prime Minister and acts as a link between the Monarchy and the County. He also represents the Queen at many charitable functions and events.

Each year a small number of cadets are selected to accompany the Lord Lieutenant on official duties, including one cadet to represent the Combined Cadet Force in Devon.

Head of RAF Section Dr Simon Smale said Daniel received the nomination for showing outstanding commitment to the RAF section of the CCF.

"We were very pleased to hear that he had been selected; he will be an excellent representative of the CCF and of Exeter School."

Daniel is the fourth pupil in eleven years to be selected, following in the footsteps of alumnae Sarah Trahair-Williams (1999-2006), Holly Griffin (2005-2012) and Jenny Herring (2010-2017), alongside teachers Mr Donne (1970-1981) and Dr Chapman who have also been honoured in recognition of their work with the CCF.

Daniel said the appointment came as a complete, yet exciting surprise and he was really looking forward to carrying out his various duties in the coming year with pride.

"Being part of the CCF has given me many diverse opportunities since I joined in the Middle Fifth, including flying in a Grob Tutor at RAF Colerne, being part of a summer camp at RAF Henlow, competing in the Air Squadron Trophy Competition at Blandford Camp and most recently attending and passing the Air Cadet Leadership Course at RAFC Cranwell where I enjoyed meeting many other cadets from around the UK."
