Devon's new crime Superintendent aims for first class victim care

Devon and Cornwall Police has appointed Ken Lamont as Detective Superintendent, to head crime investigation (CID) across the whole of Devon.

A former member of HM Royal Marines, he joined the Force in 1990 in Torbay. He has worked across all Force areas including Devon, Plymouth and Cornwall; holding positions of Detective Constable, Det. Sergeant, Det. Inspector and more recently Detective Chief Inspector for Cornwall.

Whilst encountering many testing situations throughout his career, he sees his new posting as the most challenging. His remit covers a geographic area of almost 3,000 square miles, with a population of around 1.1 million, which increases dramatically over the summer months.

A senior team of two Detective Chief Inspector and eight Detective Inspectors, as well as crime investigators throughout Devon will back him.

His key undertakings for the region are to maintain high detection rates of crime; secure convictions for criminals; safeguard those most vulnerable; and deliver the best possible aftercare service to victims and witnesses of crime.

“I will ensure that my teams are equipped to deliver the very best level of service to victims of crime,” he said. “Fortunately, Devon & Cornwall is a very safe area to live, however perception and the fear of crime can often be out of balance to the reality. Our aim is to reassure the community of this”.

Det. Supt Lamont’s 23-year career in the Force has been dedicated to the world of investigation, including overt and undercover operations, handling volume and major crime and a period as head of Special Branch.

“The service we deliver to victims might be their only contact with the police; and this service will leave a legacy, either positive or negative. I want the service we deliver to be second to none.”
