Doors open at re-use shop at Exton Road Recycling Centre

Exeter residents who want to look after their pennies and help save the environment can now take advantage of a new reuse shop at the Exton Road Recycling Centre.

In a joint initiative between Devon County Council and SITA UK the shop will provide a wide range of items including furniture, ornaments, clothing, golf clubs, bathroom fixtures and fittings and crockery.

Councillor Roger Croad at Devon County Council said: “This is an excellent development and one which we believe will prove popular with people living in and around Exeter. We want to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill and reusing is even better for the environment than recycling.”

Local member for Alphington & Cowick, Councillor Vanessa Newcombe said; "I welcome the return of a re-use shop to the recycling facility site, which was always very popular, and I am sure the new shop will be too."

Craig McArdle, Area Supervisor Re-sales at SITA UK said: “We are delighted to be able to use the existing steel shed at Exton Road recycling centre for the reuse shop. There is plenty of room for people to browse and free parking is available, so we look forward to welcoming local people who want to find a useful second-hand item for their home or garden.”

The Exton Road Recycling Centre is open 8am-4.30pm Monday to  Friday,10am-4.50pm Saturday and Sunday during the winter and 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, 10am-6pm Saturday and Sunday during the summer.

The other household recycling centre in Exeter, at Pinbrook Road, already has a reuse shop on site offering a wide range of ‘pre-loved’ items.
