The RNLI has released footage today of the dramatic moment a lifeboat crew from tackled an out-of control motorboat in Teignmouth Harbour.

The video shows a crew from Teignmouth RNLI lasso the boat under their control before getting to the boat’s controls.

The small motorboat lost control after the boat’s  owner fell overboard whilst leaning over the side to recover his mooring near Polly Steps

The owner had unclipped the 'kill-cord'-which stops the engine if disconnected- from himself and somehow managed to push the throttle lever to full power.

The result was that the boat went into a spin on the water at full speed, and threw him into the water

The man was able to escape unharmed but his boat began to floatdown stream towards the dock area whilst spinning in circles.

Giles Squirrel, James Cassidy and Adam Truhol from Teignmouth RNLI along  to corral the runaway boat  with the assistance of the Teignmouth Tug before reducing the vessel’s speed.

No one was hurt in the incident.
