ECTA becomes ExeAccess and launches Four Rs re-cycling project
From today (Monday 8 April), Exeter Community Transport Association (ECTA) will be known as ExeAccess. This title will better describe the work the charity does of providing disabled people with access to Exeter.
ExeAccess will be the new umbrella name for all the services provided by the charity: Shopmobility, Taxicard, Ring & Ride, The Greater Exeter Access Project and The Accessible Transport Hub.
A new equipment recycling project, The Four Rs Project (Recover, Restore, Re-use and Re-cycle) will also be launched.
The Leader of Exeter City Council, Councillor Pete Edwards will rename the charity and launch the 4 Rs project at 11am on Monday 8 April at the Paris Street office.
4 Rs is a recycling scheme to help disabled people on low incomes become more mobile by allowing them to purchase mobility equipment at low prices. ExeAccess is donated a large amount of mobility equipment each year: this equipment will now be recycled back into the community to people on low incomes to help with independent mobility.
Mike Ellis ExeAccess Manager said:
"We have a steady stream of disabled people visiting our premises who due to either being on benefits or earning a low income cannot afford the mobility equipment they need.
“The Four Rs Project will be a community resource of recycled mobility equipment that will undoubtedly enhance the quality of life for many disabled people caught in the poverty trap."
The types of mobility equipment donated to the Project range from mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs to walkers (3 and 4 wheeled) to Zimmer frames and walking aids.
This project has been generously funded. In addition to this grants were received from The Bruce Wake Charity, the Devon Community Foundation, the Norman Family Trust, The Sir John and Lady Amory’s Trust, The Gweneth Moxon Charitable Trust, The Albert Hunt Trust , The 29th of May 1961 Charity, Exeter City Council and from grants by Exeter and Broadclyst’s Devon County Councillors.
Councillor Pete Edwards said:
"I look forward to personally congratulating the ExeAccess staff and volunteers for providing another service for the people of Exeter who need help with their mobility so they can enjoy our thriving and wonderful city."
