More than 2,700 disabled motorists, carers and their friends and families attended One Big Day Exeter at Westpoint on 27 July 2019. The event showcased a wide range of vehicles available for disabled people, and offered visitors the chance to discover all they needed to know about worry-free motoring with the Motability Scheme.

Visitors explored a showcase of over 100 vehicles from leading manufacturers including Ford, Audi and Hyundai, plus, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) and a range of vehicle adaptations, powered wheelchairs and scooters.

One Big Day provides a unique opportunity to test drive a variety of cars including some vehicles fitted with a selection of popular driving adaptations. With more than 260 visitors taking to the wheel with a professional driving instructor, test drives gave guests the chance to experience which vehicles might best suit their individual mobility needs.

Brand new for One Big Day Exeter this year was the indoor Scooter Test Drive Area. Visitors were able to try out powered wheelchairs and scooters on a specially created track to find which model best suited their requirements.

Alison Beasley, One Big Day event manager, Motability Operations Ltd, said:

“We were excited to bring the One Big Day event back to Exeter and we’re thrilled that it was such a successful return for us. It is a great opportunity for existing and potential customers to see a wide and varied selection of the cars, scooters, adaptations and powered wheelchairs available to lease through the Scheme, all in one place. With the opportunity to test drive a wide range of cars and try out scooters in the new Scooter Test Drive Area, there was plenty on offer to help guests find the perfect mobility solution for their requirements.”

Visitors to the event were also able to talk to Motability Scheme advisors and gather useful information from Scheme partners – Kwik Fit, RAC and RSA Motability – as well as advice from Driving Mobility and Disabled Motoring UK. Fun for all the family, free children’s entertainment saw lots making the most of the bouncy castle, getting their faces painted and taking selfies with the Motability Scheme mascot, Billy the Bear.

Other One Big Day events taking place across the UK this summer include:

  • Yorkshire Event Centre, Yorkshire – Saturday 10 August 2019
  • Peterborough Arena, Peterborough – Saturday 7 September 2019
  • Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh – Saturday 21 September 2019
